How do Social Skills Groups Help Children?
Our social skills groups provide a supportive environment where children can practice the art of connection through structured peer interactions. Led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or a trained Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), these small groups focus on transforming abstract social rules into tangible, practice-ready skills.
Through hands-on ABA therapy for children who learn differently, our groups help children develop several key abilities:
- Communication Skills: We use task analysis to break down complex interactions, helping children learn to initiate conversations, ask questions, and read nonverbal cues like facial expressions.
- Peer Interaction: Children engage in autism social skills activities they genuinely enjoy, such as cooperative games and role-playing, to master turn-taking, sharing, and waiting.
- Social Problem-Solving: For older children and adolescents, we focus on more complex skills like peer negotiation, perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and understanding sarcasm.
We integrate these groups into a personalized therapy plan to ensure that every session targets your child’s specific developmental goals. By using play-based and naturalistic teaching methods, we provide a low-pressure space for children to build real progress and real connection with their peers.
