Coordinating ABA therapy with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) involves a collaborative effort between your family, your child’s school, and our clinical team. We specialize in IEP coordination and school collaboration to ensure that therapy goals and academic objectives work in harmony.
To begin this process, we recommend the following steps:
- Gather Documentation: Collect your child’s current IEP or 504 plan, evaluation reports, and school behavior data. This allows our team to see which accommodations are currently in place.
- Engage the School Team: Contact the school’s special education director, psychologist, or teacher. Discuss your desire to integrate School-Based ABA Therapy and request permission for our BCBA to coordinate with them.
- Conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): Our BCBAs can conduct an FBA within the school setting to identify the reasons behind specific behaviors. This data is used to create a Personalized therapy plan that aligns with school routines.
- BCBA and Teacher Collaboration: We meet with classroom teachers to review the assessment and set shared goals. Our BCBAs provide training to school staff on specific strategies, such as reinforcement schedules and prompting techniques, to ensure consistent support throughout the school day.
- Ongoing Monitoring: We provide data-driven input for IEP meetings and offer weekly progress updates to parents. By collecting daily data, we can adjust the plan as your child masters new skills or if progress stalls.
Our goal is to provide hands-on ABA therapy for children who learn differently, helping bridge the gap between clinical support and classroom success. While we work closely with your school team, please note that results may vary and you should verify insurance coverage as prior authorization may be required.
