How do I Become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst?

To become a BCBA, you must follow these essential steps:
- Earn a Bachelor’s Degree: Start with an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. We recommend pursuing coursework that covers foundational topics like ethical conduct and behavioral assessment.
- Complete a Verified Master’s Program: You must earn a master’s degree in behavior analysis or a closely related field. It is critical to choose a program with a Verified Course Sequence (VCS) formally approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Fulfill Supervised Fieldwork: You are required to complete 2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork (or 1,500 hours in a concentrated track). This hands-on experience must be supervised by a qualified BCBA. We offer BCBA supervision across our service areas, including Springfield, St. Louis, and Kansas City, to help you gain this vital experience.
- Submit Your Application: Once your education and fieldwork are complete, you will apply through the BACB Gateway. This includes submitting official transcripts and verification of your supervised hours.
- Pass the BCBA Exam: The final step is passing the national certification exam, which tests your knowledge of the BACB Task List and ethical standards.
After earning your credential, you must maintain it by completing 32 continuing education units (CEUs) every two years.
