How Many Rbt Sessions per Week does a Child Usually Need?

The number of hours your child will spend in therapy is determined through a personalized therapy plan that reflects their age, developmental level, and specific goals. Because we believe in a tailored approach rather than a one-size-fits-all model, the frequency is finalized only after a comprehensive assessment by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).

While every child’s needs are unique, here are the general guidelines for weekly session hours based on age and focus areas:

  • Toddlers (under 3): 10–15 hours per week focusing on early communication, play skills, and joint attention.
  • Preschool (3–5): 15–25 hours per week with an emphasis on language, social interaction, and pre-academics.
  • School-Age (6–12): 10–20 hours per week focusing on academics, self-regulation, and peer relationships.
  • Adolescents (13+): 6–12 hours per week centering on independence, vocational skills, and social nuances.

Sessions themselves typically last between 2 to 4 hours and are scheduled several times per week to ensure consistency. We provide hands-on ABA therapy for children who learn differently, and because early intensive intervention often leads to the best outcomes, younger children may benefit from a higher frequency of hours.

During your initial consultation, we will have transparent conversations about these recommendations and how they fit your family’s routine. Results may vary; consult a healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment. Information on this site is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
